“…we then completely disappeared from the match”

Nico Schulz and Marwin Hitz shared their thoughts after the game against 1. FC Cologne. “After going 1-0 up, we completely disappeared from the game.” The match reactions.

Nico Schulz: “We started very well and put Cologne under pressure very well. We then deservedly took a 1-0 lead, but then we became a bit too passive. In doing so, we allowed Cologne to get into the game more and more. We wanted to move much better when we had the ball. We also wanted to be more active off the ball, but in the end that didn’t work out as well as we’d hoped.”

Marwin Hitz: “We started really well, were very much in the game, won our challenges and also scored a lovely opening goal. Then we completely disappeared from the game. We lost possession of the ball lots of times, had no control and dropped too far back. Then we conceded the equaliser. We didn’t show the kind of presence we’d set out to in the second half either. Then we got a bit unlucky with the header that struck the post. If that had gone in, we’d have had a bit more time. It obviously wasn’t a good afternoon for us. It’s inexplicable. We made a good start and went 1-0 ahead with our first chance. Ultimately, there were too many mistakes. We got our decision-making wrong; we can’t allow that to happen, especially given how the past few weeks have gone. We absolutely wanted to win the match.”
