U23s to round off English week in Mönchengladbach

Following their clashes with top sides Fortuna Cologne and Preußen Münster, the Borussia Dortmund U23s are next in action on Saturday afternoon as they round off an intense week against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Kick-off at the Grenzlandstadion is at 14:00 CET.

The Gladbach youngsters currently sit in mid-table. With 39 points on the board, the Foals currently occupy 13th place. With a nine-point cushion over the teams in the relegation zone and a game in hand, the men from the Lower Rhine can be safe in the knowledge that they will be in the Regionalliga again next season. Coach Heiko Vogel’s charges are currently without a win in more than two months and recently lost to relegation battlers Bonn and Homberg. Their last win was against SV Straelen at the beginning of February.

The Black & Yellows will have fond memories of the reverse fixture this term. BVB ran out 5-1 winners at the end of January, although Mönchengladbach led 1-0 until the 67th minute. Then came a goals glut, with Dominik Wanner, Ansgar Knauff, Alaa Bakir (2) and Tobi Raschl scoring five goals in a short space of time to seal the three points. BVB will be without Maximilian Hippe, Patrick Osterhage, Taylan Duman and Moritz Broschinski for the return fixture. (tl)
