U19s start UEFA Youth League with big ambitions

The Borussia Dortmund U19s will start the group phase of the UEFA Youth League with a trip to play Besiktas on Wednesday. Kick-off in the Yusuf Ziya Önis stadium is scheduled for 13:00 CET.

”We’re all looking forward to this competition and will be striving to achieve maximum success,” says coach Mike Tullberg. In the 2019/20 season, BVB qualified for the second round before being knocked out by Derby County. The stated goal this time around is the last 16.

The club have registered 34 players for the UEFA Youth League. 16-year-old Abdoulaye Kamara has been included in the U19 squad for the first time for the trip to Istanbul. Mike Tullberg will have to make do without the injured Nnamdi Collins, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Isaak Nwachukwu, while striker Julian Rijkhoff’s participation is also in doubt.

”Besiktas are a strong side, especially offensively, but we think we know how we can cause them problems,” said Tullberg as he looked ahead to Wednesday’s opponents.
