Three goals in the first half – BVB beat Bologna

Borussia Dortmund won their second test match during training camp, defeating FC Bologna 3-0 in Altach, Austria with all the goals coming in the first half.

Marco Rose sent out a formation with two strikers into the clash with the Italians in front of 5978 fans: Erling Haaland and Steffen Tigges formed the striking duo. And Haaland immediately took centre stage in the very first minute when he lurked in front of goal ready to shoot after a low pass from Reyna, but an Italian defender was able to clear the danger before the striker could shoot.

Black and Yellows immediately seized the initiative and enjoyed more possession in the opening minutes. This almost led to an early lead in the 8th minute, but the referee ruled Haaland’s goal offside. Two minutes later, Bologna had a header on goal which was to remain the Italians only attempt on goal in the first half. Instead, Bologna’s goalkeeper Skorupski took centre stage several times: In the 15th minute he saved from Tigges, seven minutes later he reacted with a reflex on the line and thus prevented his team from falling behind. Haaland had risen to nod in at the back post after a good cross from Brandt.

Skorupski was finally beaten in the 24th minute: first the goalkeeper kept the upper hand against Haaland, but Reyna converted the rebound from nine metres to put the Black and Yellows into a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, Tigges almost increased the lead, but Dijks was able to clear. Further BVB goals were not long in coming, however: In the 42nd minute, Maloney doubled the lead, directing a free header from about eleven metres into the corner of the net to notch his first goal for the first team. On the stroke of the half-time whistle, Tigges made it a deserved 3-0 half-time score with a low shot.

Due to a thunderstorm in Altach, kick-off for the second half was delayed. When play started again, BVB – unchanged in terms of personnel – once again took control of the game. In the 49th minute, Brandt looked like scoring the next goal after a pass from Reyna, but he failed to beat Skorupski. Eight minutes later, Black and Yellows countered when Reus sent Haaland down the touchline. When the striker crossed into the middle, Passlack was tripped up by the onrushing Skorupski. After a short break for treatment, the full-back was able to continue playing.

Kobel had to intervene for the first time after an hour of play, when the BVB goalkeeper kept out a powerful shot. Afterwards, the action was again on the other side of the pitch: Haaland just missed after a Reus cross in the 63rd minute. Eight minutes later, substitute Moukoko drove the ball through midfield and shot on goal instead of passing to one of his teammates who were up in support and his attempt was blocked. Marco Reus had the last Dortmund chances of the day: he first hit the crossbar in the 78th minute from around 25 metres then had a shot blocked by a Bologna defender with five minutes remaining.
