Patrik Schick’s comments on “dream” Premier League move after starring vs Scotland

Patrik Schick netted a double in Czech Republic’s two-goal victory over Scotland on Monday and he has previously spoken of his desire to one day move to the Premier League.

The Bayer Leverkusen forward opened the scoring at Hampden Park from a header before a sensational goal after the break – lobbing Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall with an audacious effort from near the halfway line.

Schick will be a major player for Jaroslav Silhavy’s side in Euro 2020 and will be central for their hopes of advancing into the deeper stages of the tournament.

Having already showcased his talents in the top flights of Italy and Germany respectively, he could now be on the radar of Premier League clubs.

Aged just 25, Schick joined Leverkusen last summer in a £22million switch from Roma and he enjoyed an impressive debut campaign, scoring 13 goals in 36 appearances.

That followed on from a loan spell at RB Leipzig in which he netted 10 times in 28 outings having previously found the net just eight times across two injury-disrupted seasons at Roma.

Schick initially came to prominence at the top tier of European football in the 2016-17 season, scoring 13 goals for Sampdoria, which prompted his move to the Italian capital.

However, after grabbing a brace in his nation’s victory at Scotland, he has now showcased his talents directly to fans across the UK.

Last year – prior to completing his move to Leverkusen – he gave an interview to media in his native country in which he claimed that he one day would like to be a star in the top-flight of English football.

The interview was given not long after he helped RB Leipzig outclass Tottenham in the Round of 16 in the Champions League, while his side reached the semi finals of that season’s competition before being downed by Paris Saint-Germain.

He claimed that a move to the Premier League would be something that interests him, and also spoke of previously rejecting approaches from both Crystal Palace and Everton in the division.

Schick told iSport.cz : “When I left the Czech Republic, my dream was to play in Italy and I achieved that.

“Now, I feel very attracted to England, to be honest.

“Leipzig was absolutely the right choice for my career. I had also talked to Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke here in Germany.

“In England, there were Everton and Crystal Palace, plus Valencia in Spain.

“I just felt that Leipzig wanted me more, and I was also attracted to the playing style of coach Julian Nagelsmann. I am sure that I made the right choice.”

His starring role against Scotland may once again prompt interest from Premier League clubs in a player who appears to have the skillset to thrive in the division.

Schick is a versatile attacking player and whilst his remarkable goal from distance provided the iconic moment, his all-round performance – including his headed second goal – proved his potential at the top level.
