No winner in the all-Borussia clash

After the first internationals involving BVB players took place last week, there have been a number of international fixtures involving Black & Yellows in recent days too. The all-Borussia clash between Jude Bellingham’s England and the German national team, which included Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Süle, ended in a 3-3 stalemate.

While the score in the latest edition of this classic rivalry between the Three Lions and Germany was goalless at the break, the second half proved to be a thriller and the match at Wembley Stadium in London finished 3-3. Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck formed the DFB’s central defensive partnership for the full 90 minutes, while England’s Jude Bellingham was given a standing ovation as he was substituted in stoppage time. England’s relegation from League A was already confirmed prior to kick-off. Germany coach Hansi Flick’s team ended the UEFA Nations League campaign in third place.

If they had won by two clear goals against the Netherlands, a Belgium squad including Thomas Meunier and Thorgan Hazard would have qualified for the final round of the UEFA Nations League. But in the end, the Red Devils suffered a 1-0 defeat in Amsterdam on Sunday evening. Meunier was substituted off at half-time, while Hazard was an unused substitute.

Youssoufa Moukoko will not play for the Germany U21 national team in their friendly against England on Tuesday. The 17-year-old prematurely withdrew from the squad with a minor injury.

Elsewhere, Gio Reyna and the USA have a friendly fixture coming up on Tuesday evening. They will take on Saudi Arabia in Murcia, Spain at 20:00 CET.

The Germany U19s followed up their 5-0 EURO qualifying win over Armenia with a 5-1 victory against Belarus. Tom Rothe came on as a 64th-minute substitute with the score at 1-1. They will take on Slovakia in Braunschweig in their next qualifier on Tuesday (16:00 CET).

Soumaila Coulibaly was part of the France U20 team that drew 1-1 with Tunisia in a friendly.

Meanwhile, there were two BVB goals at the Four Nations Tournament in Duisburg: youth player Paris Brunner from Borussia Dortmund’s U17s bagged a brace as the Germany U17 national team ran out 3-1 winners against Israel.
