It’s no secret that Manchester City tried, and failed, to sign Harry Kane last summer.
That failure has left a space in Pep Guardiola’s squad for a top-class forward and has led to the club being linked with just about every in-form marksman across Europe.
They’ve been widely tipped to move for Erling Haaland, who is attracting interest from top clubs across the continent, while City are also said to be “willing to meet the asking price” for another forward who’s been rattling in the goals in Italy.
And City scouts were reportedly in Italy this week to run the rule over a reported target they’d like to sign next summer.

City scouts were reportedly in Italy to watch Bologna vs Roma on Wednesday night to cast their eye over midfielder Mattias Svanberg.
Il Giornale [via TuttoMercatoWeb ] reports that City ‘like’ Sweden international Svanberg and are planning to make a move for him next summer.
The Bologna midfielder ended up netting the winning goal as his side beat Jose Mourinho’s Roma 1-0.
City ‘willing to meet asking price’
Manchester City’s hunt for a forward has reportedly led them to Dusan Vlahovic.
La Repubblica [via Get Italian Football News ] reports that City are ‘ back in the race’ for the forward, and will be ‘willing to meet’ Fiorentina’s asking price.
The Citizens reportedly tried to sign Vlahovic after their failed attempts to sign Harry Kane last summer after Pep Guardiola ‘fell in love’ with the forward.
Haaland boost
Erling Haaland has a 90% chance of leaving Borussia Dortmund next summer and City are ‘leading the race for the player’s signature, it is reported.
According to Max Bielefeld of Sky Sports Germany, Dortmund are trying to double the player’s salary and make him sign a new deal which would see his release clause kick in in 2023 rather than next summer.
And while that remains a possibility,the German journalist believes Haaland is much more likely to seek out a transfer.
Real Madrid are said to have dropped out of the race for the Norwegian superstar, meaning City will have to beat Paris Saint Germain to his signature.
