Key stats for each Fans’ Footballer of the Year nominee with Mohamed Salah leading scorer


A look at the key stats from every nominee for the 2021 Fans’ Footballer of the Year award, with Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes and Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy looking to take Salah’s crown

Nominees revealed for Fans’ Footballer of the Year

Unsurprisingly, all of the nominees for this year’s Fans’ Footballer of the Year award have enjoyed incredible calendar years.

Yet, due to the range of players that have been nominated, not all of them have excelled in the same areas of the pitch.

Whilst the likes of Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne have been deadly in front of goal, Edouard Mendy and Ruben Dias have been equally effective at preventing teams from scoring.

Here is a round-up of every nominee’s key stats from this calendar year to help you decide on which way your vote is going to go.

Mason Mount

The Chelsea midfielder has added goals to his game over the last 12 months, netting 14 times for club and country in 2021, including five in 12 matches this season.

He has also laid on 11 assists in the calendar year, creating four goals this season and also setting up Chelsea’s winner in the Champions League final against Man City.

This season has seen him achieve a consistent passing accuracy of 87% for club and country.

Phil Foden

Foden’s 2021 saw him deliver on his incredible potential as he scored 16 times for club and country, including two crucial strikes against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League knockout stages.

He also laid on 14 assists in all competitions, including four in 14 matches so far this season.

With four assists in seven World Cup qualifying matches, the 21-year-old is proving himself to be a key player for both club and country, with an average pass success rate in all competitions of 87.9% .

Bruno Fernandes

Whilst Fernandes’ form may have dipped a little this season, he has still notched a healthy nine assists in 2021.

More impressive is his goal return, with the attacking midfielder netting 22 times for club and country in this calendar year, including crucial strikes in Man United’s run to the Europa League final.

This season, he is also averaging an impressive 2.7 key passes a game.

Kevin De Bruyne

It says all you need to know about De Bruyne that, even in a year where he has struggled with injury, he has still netted 15 times in all competitions.

The creative force has also set-up 14 goals in 2021, including a run of three assists in consecutive games at the start of the year, and two in a thrilling Nations League encounter with France.

Despite his injury-hit campaign, like Fernandes, he still averages 2.7 key passes per game.

Jorginho

Whilst other players may score more, Jorginho has a knack of scoring important goals.

He has scored decisive goals in four games this year, earning Chelsea three wins and a draw in the process.

The midfielder also averages an incredible 90.7% pass success rate this season, alongside 1.9 tackles and 1.9 interceptions per game.

He also won two major trophies this year – the Champions League and Euro 2020.

Declan Rice

The West Ham captain has led by example in 2021, helping his side to challenge for the top four.

His average of 2.1 tackles per game this season is very impressive, and he also averages 1.9 interceptions every 90 minutes.

As well as winning the ball, he rarely gives possession away, averaging a 91.6% passing success rate.

Ruben Dias

Dias has been a revelation since moving to City in 2020, with Pep Guardiola’s side conceding just 0.68 goals per game when the Portugal centre-back has been on the pitch.

The 24-year-old averages 2.8 clearances per game this season, also winning 1.6 aerial duels a match.

Alongside that, he remains a cool presence on the ball, with a passing success rate of 92.1% , averaging 69.1 passes per game.

Edouard Mendy

Mendy conceded just three goals in 12 Champions League games last season, also keeping 16 clean sheets.

Mendy averages a clean sheet every two matches in the Premier League this season and, prior to last weekend’s defeat to West Ham, had kept more clean sheets ( 7 ) than he had conceded goals.

Mohamed Salah

Salah has enjoyed an excellent 2021, with 34 goals and 10 assists.

He has netted 13 Premier League goals this season – and a further six in the Champions League – and is already four goals clear in the race for the golden boot.
