Jadon Sancho is out of Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League clash with Manchester City.
The England winger has failed to recover from the thigh injury that has sidelined him for a month despite returning to training at the weekend.
Dortmund coach Edin Terzic confirmed Sancho will not be available for tomorrow night’s quarter-final meeting with City, when the Bundesliga side will be trying to overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit.
The 21-year-old has been undergoing intensive treatment in Dubai in a bid to be fit to meet his former club.
He suffered the injury against Borussia Monchengladbach – and Dortmund are now seven points off the Bundesliga’s top four with 10 games still to play.
Terzic said: “Jadon won’t be at our disposal, although he trained again.
“He is doing his best to return as fast as possible and we would like to have him with us tomorrow but he won’t be.
“We have to take our time with him, so he is not an option for tomorrow, but we hope it won’t last much longer for him before he comes back into the team.”
The news is a huge blow to Dortmund – who also have injury concerns over Mats Hummels and Marco Reus – as they look to heap more Champions League heartbreak on Guardiola.
The Catalan is looking to reach the semi-finals with City for the first time in five attempts.
The Premier League leaders have failed to go beyond the last eight after losing to Liverpool, Monaco, Tottenham and Lyon during Guardiola’s reign.
In three years at Bayern Munich, Guardiola failed to progress beyond the semi-finals and is still to add to the two European crowns he won at Barcelona.
It needed last-minute Phil Foden winner last week to secure a slender advantage for City to take to Signal Iduna Park.
The Blues then lost to 10-man Leeds on Saturday and saw their lead over Manchester United at the top of the Premier League cut to 11 points.
City still need 11 points from their final six games to secure their third title in four seasons.
And with an FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea on Saturday and a Wembley return to meet Tottenham in the Carabao Cup final the following weekend, City remain on course for an historic Quadruple.
Guardiola has injury doubts over Sergio Aguero and Aymeric Laporte after both players missed the 2-1 defeat to Leeds.
