Hummels makes comeback, Bellingham debuts on international stage

Preparations are now in full swing for the countries whose national teams will be taking part in the European Championships from 11 June. Four Black & Yellows represented their countries on Wednesday evening, with two of them going head to head.

Mats Hummels made his comeback for the German national team at the Tivoli-Stadion in Innsbruck, playing the full 90 minutes as part of a back three in Germany’s friendly fixture against Denmark. On the opposite team was his BVB team-mate Thomas Delaney, who also played the full 90 minutes at the heart of the Danish midfield. The German national team were without Emre Can, who was omitted from the squad due to a minor adductor complaint, for the 1-1 draw.

While Mats Hummels was making his comeback, Jude Bellingham was making his first start for the English national team. The Borussia Dortmund man played the full 90 minutes in a friendly against Austria in Middlesbrough, taking his international appearances to three in total. The Englishman even found the back of the Austrian net with a flick in the opening stages, but the referee had already sounded his whistle for a foul by an attacker in the build-up. Bellingham then regained possession of the ball in the 57th minute and initiated the winning goal for the Three Lions, who went 1-0 up through Saka. Jadon Sancho was an unused substitute.

Erling Haaland was in his usual red-hot form in front of goal on Wednesday evening. The striker scored the only goal for Norway, who did not qualify for the European Championship, in a friendly against Luxembourg. Haaland scored in stoppage time to rescue the win for the Scandinavians in Malaga, Spain.
