‘These people are crazy’ – Watch as Chelsea star Rudiger is mobbed by fans in Sierra Leone


ANTONIO RUDIGER sparked a frenzy of excitement amongst fans in Sierra Leone ahead of the launch of his charity organisation.

The Germany centre-back flew to the country of his parents’ birth on Monday to unveil The Antonio Rudiger Foundation.

And the Blues star, 28, took to social media to share footage of the lively welcome he received from scores of supporters.

The defender had to be shepherded out of an unnamed venue in Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown as ecstatic fans swarmed around him and his entourage.

And one enthusiastic supporter appeared to jump on the Stamford Bridge ace’s back with other bystanders playing music in the background.

In a post featuring a laughter emoji, shared with his one million followers on Twitter, Rudiger wrote: “I am speechless – these people are crazy. Thank you for this overwhelming welcome Sierra Leone. God bless you all.”

His Blues team-mate Trevor Chalobah sent a humorous reply joking that the fan who leapt on him probably ‘wanted a piggyback’.

Before his arrival, Rudiger, shared a post on his Instagram page about his intent to ‘recharge his batteries’ ahead of what he described as ‘a crucial part of the season’.

The Germany international, who has been at the centre of headlines surrounding his Blues future, is helping his club battle for a sixth Premier League title.

Rudiger, whose contract is set to expire this summer, is reportedly in talks with Chelsea chiefs over a new deal.

The defender, who sealed a £29 million Chelsea move from Roma in 2017, is also able to hold pre-contract talks with foreign club.

And it is claimed Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are among the European sides interested in the Champions League winner’s services.

Reports claim Rudiger turned down a rumoured Blues offer of £140,000-a-week.

It is thought the defender, who has won four major trophies with club, is keen on an offer nearer to £200,000-a-week.

Despite overseas interest Rudiger is thought to be eager to remain in London with Thomas Tuchel’s side.

The player has spoken being ‘committed’ to the club’s hopes and ambitions for success on the pitch.

The Blues centre-back told Sky Sports: “Like always, I’m fully committed to the cause.

“Talks are between my side and the club, and that’s everything you need to know.”
