He has worked in various footballing roles for several decades and has influenced some of the games top coaches, including Thomas Tuchel

Rangnick also has a shrewd eye for a player having been fundamental in recruitment, especially at RB Leipzig.

With the German side he was tasked with bringing in young players before developing them and selling them on for major fees.

Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino were signed by Ralf Rangnick earlier in his career

The 63-year-old’s insight will no doubt prove key though.

Liverpool quartet Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita and Ibrahima Konate were all signed by Rangnick.

Firmino joined him at Hoffenheim whilst the other three were signed whilst he was in his role with Red Bull.

Erling Haaland, a man whose future at Borussia Dortmund is uncertain, was also signed by the German.

United have previously been linked with the forward and could see their chances of signing him bolstered by the arrival of Rangnick.

Chelsea’s Timo Werner and Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich were also spotted at tender ages by the tactician. Both players have since moved on and claimed Champions League winners’ medals.

Rangnick, who first began coaching in the 1980s, has also helped nurture some of the game’s elite bosses.

Tuchel, who led Chelsea to the summit of Europe last term, worked under Rangnick at Stuttgart.

Julian Nagelsmann was taught by him at Hoffenheim whilst Marco Rose, Ralph Hassenhuttl and Jesse Marsch have also benefitted from the German’s teachings.

United will no doubt hope Rangnick can improve current coaches Michael Carrick, Kieran McKenna and Mike Phelan, provided they are kept on.

Recruitment has also been hit and miss on the red half of Manchester for several years, even if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did bring more of a measure approach to transfers.

United have targeted big name players for years – and did so again this year by adding Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

Rangnick’s arrival could allow the Premier League giants to add unknown, young players before helping them grow into leading lights.

Erling Haaland and Joshua Kimmich were also signed by the German

The German could no doubt assist with transfers in his consultancy role and claimed back in 2019 that he needs to be given a major role to be a success.

He told the Guardian : “I am happy where I am but if any club wanted to speak to me, the question would have to be: ‘Can I be somebody who can influence areas of development across the whole club?’

“Otherwise you are only getting half of what I am capable of

“If, after that, you can work together in a trustworthy and respectful way, then you are more likely to be successful.”
