Odriozola’s big break | Marca

Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid squad is packed full of Champions League winners, yet none have lifted the trophy more recently than Alvaro Odriozola.

The right-back won everything on offer during his loan spell at Bayern Munich last season, including the Champions League in Lisbon.

That title is on offer again this campaign, though he’s competing for it in the white of Real Madrid. With Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez out injured, this could be his chance to make his name for Los Blancos.

All change

Back in January, Odriozola was looking for another loan exit from Real Madrid. He had barely featured for Zidane in the first half of the season.

Now, the situation is completely different. Neither Carvajal nor Lucas will return before the end of the campaign, leaving Odriozola the only fit natural right-back in the squad. Nacho can play there, but he’s needed in the middle.

On Odriozola’s last start, against Cadiz, he scored his first goal for Real Madrid and his first in LaLiga Santander at all.

With Fede Valverde the only real threat to a starting berth heading to Stamford Bridge – the Uruguayan hasn’t played since April 14 – Odriozola has the opportunity to stake his claim against Osasuna.
