Liverpool transfer round-up: Reds lose out on Saul Niguez and Yves Bissouma stance emerges


Following a season of mixed fortunes, which saw their Premier League title defence falter, Liverpool are expected to conduct a squad rebuild this summer.

Ibrahima Konate has already joined Jurgen Klopp’s side to fill the gaping hole at defence, which severely impacted the Reds in the campaign just gone.

But recruits are also needed in midfield, with Gini Wijnaldum leaving Anfield this summer on a free transfer.

The back-ups to Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah also failed to fire, with Klopp’s attacking options set to be upgraded in the upcoming window.

Yves Bissouma has emerged as a target for several of the top sides in the Premier League after impressing for Brighton.

Liverpool were one of the teams thought to be interested, with a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum required in midfield.

But despite Bissouma’s stand-out performances for the Seagulls, it appears that the Reds are no long considering a move for the Malian.

That is according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano who reports that while he has been scouted, no bids have yet been submitted by Liverpool for the 24-year-old.

“Talking about Liverpool, they are scouting him because they consider him an interesting player for the future, but there are no bids, no negotiations from Liverpool,” he told the Here We Go podcast.

“At the moment he is not the main target, they are not working to sign Bissouma; scouting the player is one thing, signing the player is another thing. They are not working on signing Bissouma.”

It appears that Liverpool have lost the race to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, with the Spaniard reportedly opting to join Bayern Munich.

Saul has been a key player under Diego Simeone and made 41 appearances in all competitions as Atletico won the La Liga title.

He found it difficult to show his best form, culminating in an omission from the Spain squad for Euro 2020, with Atletico believed to be ready to sell him this summer.

That saw the 26-year-old draw several admirers, including Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool.

But Marca now claim that Bayern Munich have won the race to complete a transfer for the midfielder.

They state that Saul will move to the Allianz Arena this summer for a fee in the region of £68million, with Atletico confident the deal will be completed soon.

Liverpool are reportedly facing competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea for Wolves attacker Adama Traore.

Though he suffered a downturn in performance levels this season, Traore remains a target for the Reds who are looking to upgrade their attacking options.

But the London is Blue podcast claim that Chelsea are also now eyeing a move for the 25-year-old, with the Blues said to have “definitely” expressed an interest in the Spaniard.
