Liverpool transfer news: David Alaba makes Real Madrid decision and Kylian Mbappe latest

Liverpool owner John W Henry has been forced to come out and apologise after the European Super League reached crisis point.

Henry had put forward the Premier League champions as one of 12 founding members to the competition, that would have provided a huge financial boost.

However, the closed shop nature of the tournament led to widespread condemnation, with the Reds ultimately becoming one of nine teams to confirm their intention to leave.

In a length statement Henry confirmed that Fenway Sports Group will continue to do all they can for the good of the club, which will surely be music to the ears of Jurgen Klopp.

The German will be desperate for funds in the summer window, to help close the gap on champions-elect Manchester City.

A number of names continue to be linked with a move to Anfield and with that in mind, here’s the latest Liverpool transfer rumours:

Perez makes Mbappe admission

If it’s been a tumultuous couple of days for those in charge at Anfield, it’s likely a portion of the pressure Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez is feeling.

The driving force behind the plans, Perez has been left outflanked as nine of the 12 members withdrew their applications in a matter of hours.

Los Blancos were desperate for the competition to go ahead in order to recoup their massive losses in the last couple of years.

The La Liga champions, along with Liverpool, have been widely linked with Kylian Mbappe, who has yet to pledge his future to Paris Saint-Germain.

However, in an interview with El Chiringuito, Perez hinted that it may be difficult to make a move for the World Cup winner.

“I go out with a mask, nobody recognises me and all of a sudden I hear: ‘Presi, sign Mbappe’. I tell them to be calm,” he explained.

“We need to evolve. We have won a lot and we must recover the illusion, the desire to compete.”

On the ESL he added: “Real Madrid are in a very bad economic situation. Real Madrid, in two seasons, have lost more than €400m – and that’s just Real Madrid!”

But it has now been reported that the versatile defender will join Los Blancos on a five-year contract which is set to be announced in the coming weeks.

After confirming his departure from the Allianz earlier this year, he did hint that a move to La Liga could be on the cards, when he said: “My Spanish is not good, but good enough for the pitch.”

Caleta-Car on the market

Liverpool were heavily linked with Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car in the January window, only to see the French club reportedly pull the plug on a potential deal.

However, it has now been claimed that the Ligue 1 outfit are ready to listen to offers for Caleta-Car should the Reds revive their interest.

After extensive links with the 24-year-old failed to materialise into a move, Klopp went onto sign Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak, with the latter signing on loan for the rest of the campaign.

But the Reds boss is likely to be in the market for further defensive reinforcements after watching their title defence be decimated by injuries.

RMC Sport (via Metro) claim that Marseille will not stand in Caleta-Car’s way to complete a move to a club the player himself described as “one of the biggest in the world”.
