Kroos on Mbappe: Real Madrid always want the best so his signing wouldn’t surprise me

Toni Kroos wouldn’t be surprised if Real Madrid signed Kylian Mbappe due to the fact that Los Blancos are renowned for luring the best players in the world.

The German midfielder was quizzed about the possible arrival of the French superstar, as well as Erling Haaland who has also been linked with Los Blancos in the past.

“I prefer to talk about signings that have already been completed,” he said in an interview with Bild.

“But since Real [Madrid] always want the best, I would not be surprised.

“Next to him, Haaland is definitely the most interesting player on the market, and therefore [would] not exactly [be] cheap.

“We must not forget that we are in a period where there’s not an endless flow of money and, at the same time, we are completing our stadium [which] is not free either.”

Kroos also commented on the departure of Sergio Ramos.

“It’s going to be a strange feeling. For me he is the best defender of my time, an absolute leader,” he said of Ramos.

“I don’t know what went wrong, but now we have to replace him all together.”

Kroos has been the target of relentless criticism from former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness.

“I was a bit surprised, that’s why I reacted,” he said.

“I don’t react to so-called experts whose attacks no longer surprise me. I think Uli had it quite easy with his criticisms when choosing to talk about a player who does not play for his club.

“I really have great respect for Uli Hoeness‘ lifelong achievements, but his latest television appearances are a bit questionable.”

Someone from Bayern whom Kroos is happier to talk about is David Alaba, who has joined Los Blancos on a free transfer. The midfielder was also asked about the Austrian’s big salary.

“I knew relatively early that Alaba would come, not from David, but from Real Madrid,” he stated.

“As for what he brings, I see it like this: with Ramos and Varane, we have lost what has been our pair of central defenders for the last eight years.

“Just counting Ramos, he has made more than 600 appearances, scored more than 100 goals and won 22 titles.

“Consequently, he and Varane also did not play for free. If you want to replace those players at a similar level, then it costs.

“Also, Real Madrid received a transfer fee for Varane, but did not pay anything for Alaba. You have to take everything into account.”
