Gnabry and Choupo-Moting show they can dance

Heel, tiptoe, heal, tiptoe, kick to the back – and the celebration dance is over. Great goals have to be celebrated with a special move from time to time. That’s what Serge Gnabry thought in the middle of March with his goal to make it 2-0 against VfB Stuttgart (final score 4-0) and he invited his teammate Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting for a dance on the touchline. On International Dance Day, fcbayern.com looks back at that special celebration.

Choupo-Moting: “Looked really good”

“Serge enjoys life, I enjoy life – we like music and he likes listening to African music that we listen to together. We said we had to do a celebration dance,” recalls Choupo-Moting. The striker saw the Gnabry goal from the bench before he joined in the celebration with the 25-year-old: “We didn’t practice it much. When he scored, he remembered straightaway. I’d say it looked really good.”

Bayern dream move paves the way

Of course, the same applies to the goal scored before the celebration. That looked like a dance move – or at least Gnabry and his teammates danced round the whole Stuttgart defence with an attractive move: Thomas Müller and Leroy Sané exchanged one-twos before Sané provided the assist for the completely unmarked goalscorer Gnabry. The Swabians were mesmerised.

With a no-look-pass, Müller in tandem with Sané helps set up Gnabry’s goal.

So, it is evident on and off the pitch: Dances are not for soloists but instead require the right partner. And fans of the record champions will hopefully see further impressive dance moves in the future from the finely tuned Bayern team.

In “Looking back”, fcbayern.com presents finds from the photo archive. Among them is another great strike by Gnabry:
