Valencia vs Barcelona | LaLiga Santander: Barcelona’s penalty woes continue

Barcelona have not been too successful when being put on the spot this season and Lionel Messi missed another penalty on Sunday.

That’s now seven misses from 17 attempts from 12 yards for Barcelona this campaign, a failure rate of 41 percent.

Messi has been the culprit of three of those misses in all competitions. Both of his penalty misses in LaLiga Santander have, curiously, come against Valencia. He also missed from the spot against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Other than the Argentine, Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele and Martin Braithwaite have all stepped up to take spot kicks. They’ve all missed one and scored one. Miralem Pjanic missed his only attempt.

On Sunday, Messi made amends for his penalty slip-up by scoring just seconds later. He added a freekick to move on to 28 goals for the season in LaLiga Santander – seven above Karim Benzema.
