Sergiño Dest joined Barcelona in 2020 when Ronald Koeman was the coach, but many things have changed in a year and a half. The Dutchman was sacked last month and Xavi appointed.
Dest’s future up is the air
Since the former Barça legend took over the managerial job, the United States international has only played four minutes across all competitions. Xavi made his debut with FC Barcelona in LaLiga on 20 November in the 1-0 win against Espanyol. Dest didn’t play that game because he was recovering from injury.
Three days later the United States international came on as a substitute in the final minutes of the 0-0 draw against Benfica in the Champions League last week. Barça returned to action over the weekend and defeated Villarreal 3-1 in matchday15 of LaLiga and Dest was left on the bench.
It seems that Xavi is not keen on the United States men’s international team player and the bosses are willing to listen to offers during the January transfer window. According to multiple reports, Chelsea is one of the clubs that is interested in signing the American defender next month. Other teams that could join the race for Dest are Bayern Munich and Real Betis.
