Real Madrid vs Barcelona 2021 | Clasico Luis F. Rojo gives his opinion
Barcelona blew a great chance to take top spot in LaLiga Santander. They didn’t deserve it. This wasn’t the same Barcelona side that we’ve seen in other matches, with Ronald Koeman‘s side having put together a really impressive run in 2021. Right from the start, Barcelona weren’t at it. They were nothing like their usual selves in the first half. Real Madrid overran them and they just couldn’t create any chances.
In the final third, no one turned up. Lionel Messi hardly created anything; it wasn’t Ousmane Dembele‘s night; Pedri disappeared again in the Clasico; Antoine Griezmann only contributed with his dummy for the goal; and Francisco Trincao and Martin Braithwaite, who came on for the last few minutes, didn’t have any chances either. When no one in the attack is performing, you have no chance.
Oscar Mingueza got his name on the scoresheet, and he was probably the Azulgrana‘s best player. However, if Mingueza is your best player, you won’t win away at Real Madrid. Barcelona could just about afford to lose this match, but they now can’t slip up again.
Mingueza deserves a lot of credit. This was his Clasico debut and it looked like he looked like a seasoned veteran. He didn’t let the pressure get to him and he even got Barcelona‘s goal. It’s true that Vinicius Junior got the better of him in the play leading up to the second goal, but in a tough match he did very well. Mingueza has made a very strong case to keep his place in the team next season.
