Sergio Ramos will not travel with the Real Madrid squad for the game against Celta at Balaídos after spraining his ankle towards the end of Friday’s training session at Valdebebas, the club has confirmed. Zinedine Zidane’s captain had featured in the side’s last two games after recovering from knee surgery, playing just an hour against Elche and Atalanta to start gaining rhythm ahead of the Clásico against Barcelona and the Champions League double header against Liverpool.

Ramos joins Eden Hazard, Dani Carvajal, Álvaro Odriozola and Mariano on the list of absentees for the trip to Vigo as Zidane’s bad luck with injuries this season continues. The Madrid manager has been beset with squad issues throughout the campaign and has regularly had to dip into Raúl’s Castilla side to fill the bench on match days. Hugo Duro, the Castilla striker, retains his place in the squad for this Saturday’s game.
Fortunately for Madrid, who are playing catch-up in LaLiga, Zidane has recently recovered Marcelo and Éder Militão so he has five fit senior defenders to call on against Celta.
The international break will give Madrid the chance to regroup ahead of a run of four matches in 12 days after the FIFA fixtures when they will face Eibar, Barcelona and Liverpool twice.
