Pique: When I was 22, I was going out more than the sun

Former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has shared some memories from his time as a player and also gone on to analyse current affairs at his former club.

One of the areas of his past that Pique opened up on was his time with Pep Guardiola.

“With Pep, we had a spectacular relationship but the last year there was more tension,” he admitted to Jijantes.

“I was 22 years old and I was going out more than the sun, day in and day out.

“We won everything. I only didn’t go out the day before and the day of the match.

Carles Puyol had been there for 11 years, but never came out.

“Then he came out two or three times and the rumors came out, he sh*t himself and didn’t come out anymore.”

Messi’s return and Rafa Yuste’s comments

The center-back spoke about Rafa Yuste‘s recent statements about Lionel Messi, when the vice-president stated that there is contact between the club and the forward.

“I know him, I know how he is and he will always tell you what you want to hear,” Pique reflected as he analysed Yuste‘s comments.

“He is a great person and he will choose the right words, that’s all there is to it.

“For all Barcelona fans it would be incredible if he came back.

“Forcing situations so much can even be counterproductive, but an operation in the world of soccer can always be done.”

The interview given by Ansu Fati’s father

Now retired, Pique was also able to reflect upon Ansu Fati‘s father’s recent criticism of the game time afforded to his son.

“Generally speaking, you should surround yourself with people you trust and usually they are family members,” Pique said.

“But these relatives are not prepared, and I’m not talking about Fati, I’m talking in general.

“Your father or your brother have not studied to be representatives and they start to manage money and they sit with professionals.

“They feel empowered to say that they will do it and the mentality of the player is that, rather than an agent earning the money, your father or brother should earn it. And this is a mistake.

“You have to put yourself in the hands of competent people.

“It doesn’t help that the world of representation, in Europe, is frowned upon.

“It is a dark world, and there is talk of big money commissions.”
