Lille defender Tiago Djalo has told Neymar he “must have more respect” after the two were sent off following an on-field altercation.
The pair were sent off in the closing stages of Lille’s win over Paris Saint-Germain, a victory which saw them move three points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table.
Neymar and Djalo were both given their marching orders after a bust-up on the touchline.
The Brazilian pushed Djalo to the ground as they came together, with their clash resulting in players from both sides gathering in a melee.
The PSG forward then had to be restrained in the tunnel as the players attempted to make their way back to the respective dressing rooms.
And Djalo has now suggested that the root of their rivalry stems from an incident back in 2019, although that incident didn’t make headlines.
“The problem already comes from last year, during the last match we played in Paris, except it had not been viral like this time.” he told O Jogo via GFFN.
On Saturday’s clash, he recalled: “I did not do anything. After the foul, the referee blew his whistle and he attacked me.
“ I fell to the ground. He tried to grab the ball from me and hit me with his hand in the chin. And then I was sent off without knowing why.”
He then claimed Neymar put a sticker on his face and made a remark to him in the tunnel. And while he is happy to move on, he does believe that the former Barcelona star needs to display more respect to opponents.
“In the tunnel, he said things that I did not appreciate. He put a sticker on my face. What did he say to me? I don’t even remember but it was nothing good.
“That’s part of the game… And then each one of us went into our corner and then nothing more.
“I respect everyone, whether that be Neymar or another player. But I think that the others also need to show respect.
“We should respect each other, we are colleagues and what is lacking from Neymar is a bit of respect. Neymar must have more respect.”
The red card was Neymar’s third in the last 14 league games after making his first start since January following an injury absence.
