Luis Suarez sends Lionel Messi Barcelona exit advice amid Premier League transfer interest

Luis Suarez has told his former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi to end his career at the Camp Nou, as discussions over a new contract continue.

The Uruguayan was allowed to leave the Catalan giants at the start of this season, joining Atletico Madrid.

That move has worked to perfection, with Suarez on 19 goals and Atleti leading La Liga with a matter of weeks remaining.

Reports suggesting Messi could do the same this summer have been rife, with the goal-scoring legend set to become a free agent at the end of the current campaign.

Messi has been linked with a number of clubs across the world, including Manchester City, who are looking to replace their own record scorer Sergio Aguero.

Suarez’s time at Barca ended in acrimonious fashion, but he has pleaded with his friend and former teammate to stay with the club, claiming a move away “wouldn’t be good for him”.

“The best thing would be to finish his career where he has been happier,” said Suarez in an interview with TV3.

“If you ask me, as a friend, I’ll tell you that I don’t see him anywhere other than Barcelona, it wouldn’t be good for him. But he will be the one to make the decision.

“Barcelona is the team that has given him everything and he has also given everything to the club.”

AS claim that Messi is close to agreeing a new deal with Barcelona, despite interest from City and Paris Saint-Germain.

The report suggests that the Argentinian’s father, and agent, Jorge Messi has met with new president Joan Laporta in recent days.

In those meetings, it is believed that Jorge has made it clear that his son would like to stay with the club and is even willing to take a 50% salary cut in order to help out with the club’s ongoing financial issues.

Further reports have added that Messi could look to make a move to America and Major League Soccer after the World Cup in 2022 – with David Beckham’s Inter Miami franchise at the front of the queue.
