Ahead of the new campaign, LaLiga TV signed up former Barcelona striker Lineker, 60, to front its coverage.

The presenter quit BT Sport in the summer but will still host Match of the Day on the BBC.

Lineker said: “I’m thrilled to become a part of LaLigaTV, a channel I’ve watched every weekend for the last two seasons.

“I have fond memories of my time playing in Spain and very much look forward to sharing the excitement of LaLiga with viewers in the UK and elsewhere.”

Joining Lineker will be ex-pros including Gaizka Mendieta, Albert Ferrer and Gus Poyet as well as journalists such as Guillem Balague.

Part of the reason for Lineker’s BT exit was his desire to free up his midweeks and watch Leicester in the Europa League.

He stated: “I feel it’s time to do things that I’ve always promised myself I’d do: such as follow Leicester across Europe with my sons (how many opportunities will we have?).
