Gary Lineker and Piers Morgan finally agree as they are left heartbroken by Lionel Messi’s teary Barcelona goodbye

LIONEL MESSI has produced some magical moments during his incredible career.

But after bidding farewell to Barcelona in a teary press conference, the Argentine wizard, 34, might just have pulled off his most unlikely feat yet: Getting Piers Morgan and Gary Lineker to agree on something.

On Sunday, Messi addressed the media after it was confirmed he would leave the club after more than 20 years at the Nou Camp, from La Masia prospect to arguably the greatest footballer ever.

The winger – expected to join Paris Saint-Germain after Barcelona confirmed they could no longer afford him – sobbed as he bid the club farewell.

And the moving press conference saw both Lineker and Piers tweet their sadness at the end of an era.

Piers tweeted: “Messi sobbing as he says goodbye to Barcelona. Very moving.”

He continued: “Wow. Poor guy looks broken as journalists give him a prolonged standing ovation.

“So hard to imagine Messi playing for another team. His heart is Barca.”

Tweeing a similar message, Lineker agreed: “So sad watching a clearly very emotional Lionel Messi having to say goodbye to Barcelona.

“No player in the history of the sport has given so much joy, so many unforgettable moments, so much success to one club.”

‘I HAVE TO SAY GOODBYE’

Messi had appeared to be angling for a move away from Barcelona last summer, but agreed to stay.

And this year, the Argentina icon agreed to HALVE his wages in a bid to continue his stay at the Nou Camp.

But LaLiga regulations prevented Barca from keeping hold of Messi – with the legendary forward now a free agent.

Earlier, a heartbroken Messi said: “I was convinced to stay here at Barcelona.

“This is my home, our home.

“I wanted to stay at Barca and it was the plan… and today I have to say goodbye after my entire life here.

“My new contract was done. All done. I wanted to stay and when I come back from holidays, it was done.”

Messi added: “Then it’s how [president Joan] Laporta explained it. At the last minute, with everything with La Liga, it couldn’t happen.

“I’m really sad because I didn’t want to leave this club. I love Barcelona and I wanted to stay, my contract was ready.

“I did everything in my possibility to stay.”
