Emerson Royal has joined up with Barcelona this Saturday morning, arriving ahead of his scheduled August 2 start date.
The Brazilian right-back is keen to get to work as a Barcelona player after joining the club outright from Real Betis this summer, following Sergio Aguero by reporting for duty earlier than planned. Now, only Lionel Messi is missing, although he is expected to return to Catalonia and sign his contract on Monday.
“My dream is coming true,” Emerson said on social media, posing at the club’s headquarters.
Barcelona initially bought half of the rights to Emerson in 2019 with Betis before paying nine million euros this summer to sign him outright. Betis, though, still hold 20 percent of the player’s rights, which will see them pocket a percentage of any future sale.
Emerson bagged five goals and 10 assists with the Andalusian side since joining in January 2019. In all, he made 79 appearances.
The 22-year-old is set to be presented as a Barcelona player at the Camp Nou at 19:00 CEST on Monday, and president Joan Laporta will be in attendance.
