FC Barcelona – La Liga: Koeman visits the Camp Nou… but not to meet Laporta

Ronald Koeman was at the Camp Nou on Tuesday, but it was not to meet new Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

It was first suggested by LaSexta that the Dutchman’s visit was to meet with the Catalan, something that is scheduled for these next few days, but the club denied it.

As such, the meeting to discuss the plan for next season has not yet taken place, although Koeman and Laporta will meet before the end of the international break.

The plan is for Koeman and Laporta to get to know one another a little better and to outline their plans ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Sales are key

Barcelona‘s plans will only be successful if they can move on some big-name players, especially those who are not in the Dutch coach’s plans.

Ultimately, sales will be essential in order to not only alleviate some of the pressure on the club’s finances but also to make room for some of the arrivals that Koeman has demanded.

Koeman got the wheels in motion last summer with regard to Barcelona‘s squad overhaul, with Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, Arturo Vidal and Nelson Semedo all leaving the club.

However, there are still some players with an uncertain future at Barcelona, such as Philippe Coutinho.

Given the club’s financial situation, it will be important for a big-salary player to leave in order to make room for possible new arrivals. Coutinho, who is not in Koeman‘s plans, would be one of those names.

Koeman himself has publicly stated that he has a list of players that he would like to be moved on and that he has spoken to the club’s directors about possible additions or profiles of players that the team needs.
