Sergino Dest is enjoying an incredible few weeks. The youngster scored twice for Barcelona against Real Sociedad before reporting for international duty, becoming the first American player to score more than one goal in a LaLiga Santander game.
Things only improved once he joined his United States teammates. Dest scored again to mark his first international goal, opening the scoring as the USA beat Jamaica 4-1 in a friendly.
With just over half an hour played, Dest drove up the left wing before cutting in to finish.
What was novel for the full-back was that he wasn’t playing in his usual position of right-back for the USA. Instead, he lined up on the left. It didn’t seem to bother him, though, and he put in an impressive performance.
His international performance could offer Ronald Koeman an option as well. The Dutchman might need to give Jordi Alba some rest over the coming weeks, and Dest might be the man to allow that to happen.
Dest still has one more international commitment before returning to Barcelona. The United States face Northern Ireland in Belfast on March 28.
