FC Barcelona – La Liga: Barcelona tweet shows they still see Messi as their player

Lionel Messi is technically now a free agent and no longer a Barcelona player, however it seems no one has told the club’s social media manager.

After a brilliant performance against Ecuador, leading Argentina to the Copa America semi-finals with two assists and a goal, Barcelona tweeted in praise of the Albiceleste captain.

Messi‘s stunning direct freekick to seal the win caught attention worldwide, with Barcelona tweeting images of his celebration, while also mentioning the participation of Sergio Aguero who came off the bench and will be heading to the Camp Nou after the tournament.

“Simply Leo,” tweeted Barcelona on Sunday morning, along with goat emojis.

Argentina, with Messi and Aguero, in the semi-finals of the Copa America.”

The Blaugrana Twitter account also later tweeted “Leo‘s night” to caption a highlights reel showing off Messi‘s two assists and goal in the 3-0 win.

It was a huge and decisive performance from the 34-year-old, who seems to not be letting his contract situation bother him in the slightest.

His renewal – which strictly speaking would now be a signing – with the Catalan club has still not been confirmed, but, after months of speculation, it does now seem to be on course for a happy ending for Barcelona fans.

The club’s delicate financial situation has made negotiations tricky, with economic control rules a constant consideration, but there has been a strong willingness on both sides to get the deal done.

For now, free agent Messi continues to impress for Argentina and has a semi-final against Colombia to look forward to.
