Fan Tokens: Kluivert, Eto’o or Luis Suarez? Fans will choose who will leave their mark on the Barcelona Museum

Patrick Kluivert, icon of Barcelona in the 1990s; Samuel Eto’o, star of the successful team of the early 2000s, two-time UEFA Champions League winner; and Luis Suarez, the team’s man-goal between 2014 and 2020 and third-top scorer in the club’s history.

The boots of one of these three legendary strikers will soon be incorporated into the Barcelona Museum along with the rest of the objects collected throughout the club’s centenary history. The fans will be in charge of choosing which one by voting through Socios.com, the official provider of the $BAR Fan Token.

The poll will be active from February 3 until February 9 at 5.30 p.m. on the Socios.com app, available for iOS and Android, and all those in possession of at least one (1) $BAR Fan Token will be able to participate. The boots with the most votes will become part of the Museum’s permanent collection.

The three candidates to go down in Barcelona history

The three candidates to go down in Barcelona history are known to all fans:

  • Patrick Kluivert: The boots he wore as he debuted with Barcelona in a match against Palamos on 2 September 1998.
  • Samuel Eto’o: the boots he wore during his first season with Barcelona (2004-05), in which he scored 29 goals and won the LaLiga Santander title.
  • Luis Suarez: The boots that the Uruguayan striker donated on the day of his tribute at the Camp Nou.

In addition, Socios.com and Barcelona will give a Fan Token $BAR owner the opportunity to personally deposit the boots at the museum. This unique experience will be available after the conclusion of the survey through Socios.com’s Fan Rewards functionality.

Users will be able to redeem it using their $SSU, the free tokens they get every time they interact with the app, which can be used to redeem products, tickets and experiences linked to the club.

What are they and what can you do with $BAR Fan Tokens?

This is the second time that Barcelona has offered fans the chance to choose the next item to become part of the club’s Musem through Socios.com. Earlier this season, fans chose the boots worn by Romario between 1993 and 1995 ahead of a shirt worn by Pepe Rodriguez between 1910 and 1912 and another from the 1978-79 season signed by Krankl, Reixach, Carrasco, Migueli, Costas, Zubiria and Tarres.

Romario‘s boots were personally placed in the museum by one of the fans who took part in the vote.

In total, Barcelona has launched around 20 surveys through Socios.com since it launched its official Fan Token in June 2020, giving fans the opportunity to choose the design of an inspirational mural installed in the team’s locker room, the design of the captain’s armband or the design of the Spotify Camp Nou corner flags, among other issues.

More than 170 sports organisations around the world use Socios.com’s blockchain technology to empower and engage with their fans. The platform currently has close to 2 million users in more than 160 different countries.
