Chelsea may have confirmed their UEFA Champions League place this week and are on the verge of securing a third-place finish in the Premier League this season, but there is still plenty to deal with off the field as their takeover saga continues.

Despite reports saying that Roman Abramovich’s team had found a solution to cover his outstanding £1.6 billion loan to the club, it has been revealed that there are still roadblocks in Tedd Boehly officially purchasing the Blues, as the Russian billionaire remains at odds with the UK government.

Meanwhile, Blues midfielder Mason Mount could make history before the campaign is out, while one of his teammates has been slammed by pundit Stan Collymore.

Here are Mirror Football’s latest Chelsea headlines.

Abramovich and UK government still at odds

The UK government and Roman Abramovich are yet to find a resolution that would complete the sale of Chelsea Football Club despite reports that the Russian billionaire’s team had found a legal solution to the outstanding issue of his £1.6bn loan to the club.

Negotiations continue but a senior government source has described a report from the Press Association that both sides have found “common ground” around how to handle the loan as “premature.”

Earlier this week a government source raised concerns that Abramovich could derail the takeover because of an impasse around how the £4.25billion deal to sell the club to a group led by US businessman Todd Boehly has been structured.

Mount on verge of equalling record

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount can equal a Premier League record for English players on Thursday night when the Blues play host to Leicester City at Stamford Bridge.

Mount is having his best season yet for Chelsea, with 11 goals and ten assists, and is one of only three players in this season’s top-flight to reach double figures for goals and assists. Of those direct goal contributions, in six of his 31 Premier League appearances, Mount has scored and provided an assist. The record for the most times scoring and creating a goal in the same game in one season by English players is seven.

Alan Shearer achieved this in the 1994/95 season en route to helping Blackburn Rovers winning the Premier League title for the first and only time in their history. Harry Kane meanwhile matched Shearer last season in a campaign where he became the second player in the Premier League to score the most goals and provide the most assists in the same season after Andy Cole.

Barcelona warned over “amateur” Christensen

Stan Collymore believes that Andreas Christensen’s decision to bail on the FA Cup final on the morning of the game was completely unfair on Chelsea and strayed into “amateur” territory.

The Blues lost at Wembley for the second time this season via a penalty shoot-out and Collymore now reckons Barcelona ought to work some financial clauses into the contract the defender is poised to sign with them in the summer in case similar situations arise going forward.

Collymore said: “No matter what industry someone works in, there is a clear line between behaving professionally or like an amateur, and on Saturday, Christensen fell into the latter category.”
