Barcelona have confirmed that Samuel Umtiti is facing three months on the sidelines. The French centre-back suffered a broken toe in training on Monday and went for surgery on Tuesday.
After the operation, the club released a short statement to confirm the recovery time for the 28-year-old.
“Samuel Umtiti has undergone successful surgery on the fifth metatarsal of his right foot,” the Barcelona statement started.
“Tuesday’s operation was performed by Dr Antoni Dalmau under supervision of the Barcelona medical services.
“He is expected to be out of action for around three months.”
Umtiti‘s absence is another problem for Xavi, although it’s true that the Frenchman wasn’t featuring much this season. He had only played one game so far, the 2-2 draw at Osasuna.
Eric Garcia‘s own injury, though, leaves Barcelona a little short in central defence.
