Erling Haaland’s love of his hometown club Leeds is well know, but now Patrick Bamford has revealed France and Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele is also a massive fan.
Bamford was stunned when Leeds’ France Under-21 goalkeeper Illan Meslier asked him for his shirt after Leeds’ last game against Fulham because he wanted it for Dembele.
Meslier explained that Dembele wanted his and Kalvin Phillips’ jerseys because he loves Leeds and watches all their games.
The Leeds striker asked for one of Dembele’s Barca shirts in exchange and Meslier video called him late one night this week from France’s Clairefontaine training base to show him the signed jersey.
“Illan’s a very funny guy,” Bamford told the Leeds United Podcast. “He’s got me a present actually.
“He FaceTimed me the other day at midnight in bed, bear in mind France are an hour ahead and he’s away with the national team.
“After the Fulham gave he said to me ‘I need your shirt please’. I said ‘fine, who for?’. He said Dembele. I said ‘who?’ and he said ‘the guy from Barcelona’.
“I said ‘what, he wants my shirt?. He said ‘yeah, he wants yours and Kalvin’s shirts, he’s a massive fan of Leeds, he watches every game’.
“I said ‘are you serious?’. I said OK, but you’ve got to get me his shirt in return.
“So he rang me at midnight the other night to show me this signed Barca shirt ‘to my bro Bamford, from Dembele.”
