Barcelona hosted Real Madrid at the Camp Nou Clasico that ended in a 2-1 victory for the visitors, with the Blaugrana making the effort, but struggling to overcome their rivals.
The hosts produced just one clear-cut chance and it came in the first half, as Sergino Dest sent the ball over from inside the box. David Alaba opened the scoring for Real Madrid before the break and Lucas Vazquez doubled their lead in stoppage time, before substitute Sergio Aguero pulled one back.
Ter Stegen
Couldn’t do much in neither of Real Madrid’s goals, but didn’t make any great saves either. A fine game for the Barcelona goalkeeper.
Mingueza
He was chosen by Ronald Koeman as the player to contain Vinicius Junior and the La Masia academy product struggled in defence throughout the first half before getting replaced at half time.
Pique
Not at fault for Real Madrid’s goals and was one of the top Barcelona performers in the game, also creating danger with his presence in dead balls.
Eric Garcia
Had a good game in overall although he could be blamed for his positioning in Alaba’s goal, while others could claim he was at fault in Lucas Vazquez’s goal.
Jordi Alba
When Alba is not very participative in attack, Barcelona struggle to create. Real Madrid dropped back after scoring, but the Catalan could find ways to help his team break down the visitors’ low block.
Busquets
Arguably one of Barcelona’s most outstanding players as he helped recover the ball and also contributed to his team’s building from the back. He is clearly in good form.
Frenkie de Jong
Prioritised containing Luka Modric over getting involved in attack. Failed to improve after break and was replaced by Koeman, as he produced a below-par display on the pitch.
Gavi
Still lacks confidence in the final third, but his attitude and contribution to Barcelona’s game are notable in every game. Was better without the ball than with it.
Dest
Better performance as a winger in the second half than as a winger in the first for Dest. Wasted a huge opportunity in the first half, but helped contain Vinicius when he dropped back after the break.
Ansu Fati
He’s still not at his best in terms of fitness and it can be noticed during the games. Was replaced in the final stretch after a collision. Tried to get involved in Barcelona’s attacks, but was contained by Real Madrid’s defence.
Memphis
Either playing on the left-hand side or as a false nine, the Dutchman hardly created any danger in front of Real Madrid’s goal. Hasn’t made the grade in big games.
Coutinho
Came off the bench at half time and was particularly lively in attack, but didn’t provide Barcelona the spark they needed from the bench in their attempt to turn this around.
Aguero
In the few minutes he was on the pitch, he had a good chance and pulled one back for Barcelona. Impossible to do more in so little time.
Sergi Roberto
Replaced Frenkie de Jong in the final stretch of the match, but didn’t have much time to get involved.
Luuk de Jong
Ronaldo Koeman’s last attempt to turn it around. Went unnoticed in the Clasico.
Ronald Koeman
Opted for the expected starting line-up and Barcelona were not disappointing although being toothless in attack and suffering a home defeat by Real Madrid. Barcelona didn’t deliver in a highly demanding duel.
