Barcelona: Not Foyth, nor Pavard: Barcelona will not sign a right back this summer

Barcelona are immersed in the preparation of next season’s squad, but it is not an easy task as the problems with Financial Fair Play make transfers difficult for the club’s sporting management.

The club has to set its priorities with caution in the face of this limitation of transfers.

Despite what has been said in recent weeks, Barcelona have no intention of signing a right-back for next season, not Juan Foyth, nor Benjamin Pavard, as no right-back will arrive.

Sergi Roberto renewal

It is true that at the moment in the squad there is no specific player for that position.

In the winter, Hector Bellerin left the team without a natural right-back.

Despite this, the club has no intention of signing anyone as they consider that what they have is enough to cover the position.

First of all, Barcelona renewed Sergi Roberto‘s contract a few days ago and for several seasons he has combined the midfield with the right back position.

It is a valid option when the team is not as demanding in defense and seeks greater projection in attack.

Options from the center of defence

When it comes to defending, Xavi will use Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo as he has been doing so far.

Both perform well in this position despite being central defenders and their defensive effectiveness is proven.

Just look at how the Uruguayan has defended Vinicius Junior in recent matches.

The problem is that when one of them plays, the team loses a central defender.

For this reason, the idea from the club’s management is to sign Inigo Martinez.

Although in some media it is taken for granted, the operation is not closed and while the two parties have spoken and there is good predisposition, we still have to wait as Athletic could even make a last attempt at renewal.

Option in the B team

On the other hand, we must also count on Julian Araujo, the right back of the reserve team who signed for Barcelona a couple of months ago.

Xavi wants to see how the Mexican, who is an international for his country, performs.

If he adapts to the Blaugrana team’s game, he could be a solution to resort to when necessary.

For all these reasons, the right-back position is covered.

There has been a lot of talk about the possibility of Foyth and Pavard, but at the moment the club is not considering it.

In fact, in the case of the Argentinian, who was in the club’s spotlight a year ago, since the signing of Kounde it was practically ruled out since the technical management considers that they are two very similar players.

Bayern and Pavard

The case of Benjamin Pavard is purely economic as the club is not willing to make the outlay that would force this operation.

Bayern Munich are not a club that make things easy and despite the fact that he only has one year left on his contract, his price would be very high.

On the other hand, the player has already said recently that his intention is to remain at the Bavarian club.
