Barcelona: Jorge Mendes and Barcelona meet to discuss new Ansu Fati deal

Ansu Fati‘s renewal with Barcelona is a step closer after the young star’s agent, Jorge Mendes, arrived in the city on Thursday for talks with the club’s board.

A second meeting is expected in the coming days to agree the details.

Despite all the upheaval at Barcelona over recent months, Ansu Fati – a product of La Masia – is set on remaining at the club.

There have been a number of other clubs interested in the Spanish international – as Mendes has let it be known – but Ansu Fati only sees his future in Catalonia.

Being given the No.10 shirt – formerly of Lionel Messi – was a symbolic gesture that marks him out as a potential leader of this side in years to come.

And it’s one Ansu Fati is unlikely to turn away from.

Whilst a number of Barcelona players have had to reduce their salary so that the club can comply with LaLiga’s salary cap, Ansu Fati is a different case, primarily because his existing wage was so low.

Since signing that deal the 18-year-old has evolved hugely, becoming a regular starter before his injury-hit last 12 months.
