Ronald Koeman‘s future is in the balance. Joan Laporta and the Barcelona board are considering the Dutchman’s future on the Camp Nou bench, and he may not take charge of another game.
The coach was already under pressure ahead of the trip to Cadiz and their draw there has only complicated things further. Meetings, calls and other forms of contact have been ongoing since the final whistle.
Koeman and Laporta‘s relationship was already complicated, and more so after the coach’s bizarre press conference statement on Wednesday. Laporta, for his part, has said that decision will be made if they need to be, while also stating that coaches rely on results.
Although the Catalans showed more fight at Cadiz, they are now three games without a win after their loss against Bayern Munich and home draw with Granada, which itself was only saved by a late equaliser.
A lot of names have been linked with replacing Koeman, from Roberto Martinez to Xavi Hernandez and Antonio Conte. But the club’s financial situation is likely to rule some of those out.
