Roberto Carlos, a former Real Madrid player and the club’s current director of institutional relations, has fiercely criticised referee Santiago Jaime Latre for his display during Barcelona’s match against Real Valladolid.
The Brazilian expressed his frustration on social media that Valladolid had not been awarded a penalty after a Jordi Alba handball.
“I’m sure this referee will be in charge of a certain game this weekend as a reward for today,” tweeted Roberto Carlos in reference to next weekend’s Clasico.
Later in the game, in the 79th minute, Oscar Plano was given a straight red for a tackle on Ousmane Dembele. On social media, the decision baffled many people on both sides of the Real Madrid/Barcelona divide.
Valladolid‘s frustration was compounded in the dying embers of the game, as Dembele scored in the 90th minute to secure a 1-0 win for Barcelona and ensure that they remain above Los Blancos heading into the Clasico.
