Barcelona: Dembele and Barcelona: No agreement reached in latest meeting

Barcelona CEO Mateu Alemany and sporting adviser Jordi Cruyff held a meeting on Monday over Ousmane Dembele‘s new contract, but no agreement was reached.

The two parties are still far apart, and Barcelona‘s position is severely weakened due to their financial restrictions.

Better offers

Dembele has already received offers from other clubs, such as Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, which are better than the package offered by Barcelona.

The Blaugrana are looking for the best way to reach an agreement with the 25-year-old, but they have been unable to as of yet.

However, in spite of the distance between both parties, the fact that negotiations are continuing shows that Dembele is strongly considering a new deal at the Camp Nou.

There is no money

Barcelona‘s leaders are looking for an agreement that works within the club’s financial restrictions.

It is difficult to find a solution that can both reduce the wage bill and ensure Dembele‘s continuity.

This is particularly the case as Dembele‘s renewal is subject to the 1/3 rule (for every three euros that is freed up through his salary, the club can use one to sign or renew the contract of another).

Laporta’s complaints

This is Barcelona‘s main problem, as they do not know exactly what they can offer the player given their delicate financial situation.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta complained about the financial obstacles that LaLiga are placing in the club’s path on Tuesday.

Dembele knows that unless he receives a significantly better offer from the club, he will not be staying.
