Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made an offer to sign in-form Rennes forward Martin Terrier in this summer’s transfer window.

Reports in France claim that Antonio Conte’s side are keen on signing the 25-year-old forward at the end of the season and state that Spurs have already made an offer for Terrier, who spent two years at Lyon prior to signing for Rennes in 2020.

With 21 goals in Ligue 1 this season, he is the division’s third top scorer this campaign behind only Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe (25) and Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder (24). Earlier this month, former Arsenal and Barcelona star Thierry Henry called for Terrier to win a first call-up to the French national side.

As reports Foot Mercato, it is claimed that Tottenham ‘really like’ Terrier and that an offer from the north London club has already been made to bolster a front line that boasts the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son. It adds that it ‘remains to be seen’ how Rennes will respond to the interest.

Terrier has been one of the most impressive goalscorers in Europe this season and via one statistic, only Manchester City ace Kevin De Bruyne is having a better season across Europe’s top five leagues.

According to FBRef, Terrier has scored 7.1 more goals than his expected goals tally suggests he should have in the league this season. Top of that list is De Bruyne, who is over-performing by 9.1, while Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrick Schick has notched 6.7 more league goals than his expected tally.

Tottenham’s reported hopes of signing Terrier could rest on whether or not they qualify for the Champions League this season. Spurs currently sit fourth and two points clear of arch-rivals Arsenal, knowing that avoiding defeat on the final day of the season against already-relegated Norwich City would seal a return to the Champions League next season.

However, Terrier’s current club Rennes have a chance of qualifying for the Champions League themselves this term. They currently sit fourth in the Ligue 1 table, which is only enough to qualify for the Europa League. If they win their final game of the season on Saturday away at Lille and Marseille lose at home to Strasbourg, Rennes would qualify ahead of Marseille on goal difference.

Terrier has previously spoken about his future with Rennes following a season where he has netted 12 more league goals than in any other season, with his previous best tally being nine in the 2018/19 and 2020/21 terms.

“We’ll see how things go at the end of the season, but I’m under contract here until 2025. I have blossomed here and I’m happy to be here,” Terrier told Prime Video about his future, as published by Get French Football News.

While Terrier has never played for France’s national side, he has represented them at youth level on 17 occasions. In 13 caps for their under-21s, he scored seven goals between 2017 and 2019, including a hat-trick on debut as a substitute during a 4-1 win over Kazakhstan in September 2017.

During his time with France’s under-21s, his national teammates included Lyon’s Houssem Aouar, RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku, Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin and Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate.
