Tottenham ‘ask Juventus about Aaron Ramsey transfer’ in shock link with ex-Arsenal star

Tottenham have made a shock enquiry to Juventus about the availability of Aaron Ramsey according to reports in Italy.

The Welsh midfielder, who previously played for Spurs’ bitter north London rivals Arsenal, joined the Turin giants on a free transfer in 2019.

However, the 30-year-old has struggled for form and fitness since moving to Italy scoring just six times as he struggles to nail down a first team place.

Juve are said to want to get the player’s whopping £400,000 a week wages off their books and will be prepared to listen to offers in the summer.

Italian publication Tuttomercato claim a return to the Premier League is on the cards with Tottenham set to do battle with Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Everton for his signature.

“In midfield it is possible that there is the departure of Ramsey whose performance has been decidedly fluctuating,” they write.

Ramsey has struggled at Juve

“The Welshman has a market in the Premier League and some enquiries have been made by Liverpool, Everton and Tottenham.”

A move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would certainly be a shock given his Arsenal past, having spent 11 years on the red side of north London after joining as a teenager.

During his time at the Emirates, Ramsey helped the Gunners to three FA Cup wins, famously scoring the winning goals in both the 2014 and 2017 victories.

He also scored three times against Tottenham as an Arsenal player, meaning he’d have to go some way to winning over fans who previously wouldn’t have held him in particularly high regard.

Ramsey left the Gunners following the expiry of his contract with the two parties unable to agree an extension.

A goal on his full league debut for Juve initially suggested he had made the right move, but despite the club winning Serie A, Ramsey found himself in and out of the team.

This season, he has made just 12 league starts under manager Andrea Pirlo, with his future at the Allianz Stadium looking very much in doubt.
