A new season beckons, yet Chelsea striker Timo Werner’s search for his shooting boots appears to still be ongoing.

During Euro 2020 he could not find them in Munich or at Wembley, and he did not have any luck in Chelsea ’s 2-1 pre-season victory against Arsenal at The Emirates on Sunday.

While his shooting boots continue to be misplaced his assisting boots are better than ever as he contributed another assist to German colleague Kai Havertz, who latched onto Werner’s precise pass to smash the ball past another of his compatriots, Bernd Leno, in the Arsenal goal.

Nobody can question Werner’s attitude, determination, or even his performances where his pace and movement in behind stretch and fluster opposition defences.

Werner has struggled with his finishing since joining The Blues

Unfortunately, the £47 million investment which brought the German to Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig has only yielded 12 goals in 52 appearances for Werner.

It is something which also continues to concern Thomas Tuchel, who sent a message to Werner after Chelsea’s victory at the Emirates.

“Nothing has changed so far. He had a so-so Euros with Germany, but that was a concern of the whole team not his personal problem,” said the Blues’ boss.

“Now it’s on him. Like always it’s on him to show his quality and his ability.

“It’s very hard to have a first match, first 45 minutes after a tough week that we put into the players, to play on this kind of level.

“I’m happy that he was dangerous but there were some chances where he could be more decisive, could have scored could have assisted another one or two.

“It’s a bit the same, like in the last games, but like I said, we’ve just started and it’s not the moment to blame.”

Finding Werner’s goalscoring form could be Tuchel’s toughest challenge as Chelsea boss

It is well documented The Blues are continuing the charm offensive to convince Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland to swap the Signal Iduna Park for Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are stacked with top quality players in every position, but a ruthless, clinical finisher seems to be the final piece Tuchel’s side need to complete their puzzle and mount a serious Premier League challenge.

Their hopes were dealt a blow when Haaland appeared uncomfortable when asked about the possibility of Chelsea spending £150 million on his services.

“It’s a lot of money for one player,” said Dortmund’s No.9, who hammered home 41 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions for his club last season.

However, Chelsea’s current No.9 Tammy Abraham scored his third consecutive goal at the Emirates in yesterday’s friendly.

The 23-year-old striker latched onto a defensive error before slotting home a composed and neat finish into the bottom right corner.

While his future at the club has been surrounded by doubt all summer, he is completely focused for the upcoming season.

“I’m absolutely tired, shattered,’ said Abraham.

“The boys have been working hard in training and it’s for the best. We are all ready for the season. We still have time; players are still coming back. We will get there.”

The Chelsea academy star has been linked with moves to both Aston Villa and West Ham United this summer.
