Sergio Aguero’s comments on Chelsea as Man City exit announced

Quite remarkably, one of the finest strikers to ever grace the Premier League will be available on a free transfer this summer.

Sergio Aguero will leave Manchester City at the end of the season after Etihad chiefs chose not to extend his contract.

The Argentine ace has plundered 10 major honours and 257 goals during a decade on City’s books – and attention now turns to the next chapter of his career.

Aguero, 32, confirmed he will pursue a “new challenge” in an emotional letter to fans and Arsenal legend Paul Merson has been quick to encourage him to move to the Emirates.

But the former Atletico Madrid star may favour joining a different London club having previously talked up a move to the Gunners’ rivals, Chelsea.

Speaking back in 2010, Aguero opened up on his admiration for Stamford Bridge legends Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard.

He also described Chelsea as a “great club” and outlined his desire to move to the capital, where he claimed he would be “really happy”.

Would Sergio Aguero be a good free transfer for Chelsea this summer? Have your say in the comments.

“I look at players like Drogba and Lampard and they have been – and still are – the best players in their positions in the world. I could really learn from players like that,” said Aguero.

” Chelsea are a great club. They have become one of the most feared in Europe over recent years.

“London would be a really amazing city to live in as well – myself and my wife could be really happy there.”

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is keen to sign a new striker this summer, with Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland his priority target.

But the Blues face bitter competition for Haaland’s signature and, should they miss out, could do far worse than sign Aguero on a free transfer to bolster their attacking options.

Meanwhile, the soon-to-be free agent is also linked with Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.
