Real Madrid ‘willing to sell Martin Odegaard’ to fund transfer for Erling Haaland

Real Madrid will reportedly attempt to sell Martin Odegaard this summer in order to raise funds to sign his compatriot, Erling Haaland.

Norway star Odegaard is midway through a six-month loan at Arsenal and his stock has risen considerably in recent weeks.

The attacking midfielder scored vital goals against Olympiacos and Tottenham, and helped the Gunners stage a remarkable comeback at West Ham.

Mikel Arteta is understood to want to sign Odegaard permanently and the 22-year-old is said to be keen on the move.

But there were doubts over Real Madrid’s stance on letting him leave, with Los Blancos seemingly determined to keep the player they signed at the age of 16.

The Santiago Bernabeu club have now clarified their stance and are resigned to selling Odegaard this summer.

That’s according to The Times , which adds Dani Ceballos – who is also on loan at Arsenal – is another name on the transfer list.

The report adds Real Madrid desperately need to improve their financial situation in order to table a bid for Haaland this summer.

Real Madrid’s financial report showed their debts total £770million yet they still harbour ambitions of brining Haaland – one of the hottest properties in Europe – to the Spanish capital.

The Dortmund striker’s father and agent met with Los Blancos chiefs on Thursday as speculation over the 20-year-old’s future continues to rage.

Odegaard, meanwhile, previously spoke of his desire to break into Zidane’s first team but has also hinted at a permanent move to the Emirates.

“We’ll see what happens this summer,” he said last month. “I’ve said things before that I still stand for: stability and development are key words.

“It’s been improving from the very beginning. I feel I quickly adapted and understood how we play.”
