Arteta reflects on ‘unpleasant situation’ as Aubameyang stripped of Arsenal captaincy
Arsenal could be set for a huge period of upheaval after a tumultuous week at the Emirates Stadium.
Coach Mikel Arteta has replaced his captain following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s latest disciplinary breach at the club and the striker is now being linked with the exit door ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.
The player has now been linked with a switch to Barcelona, and a player Arsene Wenger previously targeted could head in the opposite direction.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has also said he’ll contact Aubameyang following the incident and Crystal Palace boss and Gunners legend Patrick Vieira has weighed in on the whole saga.

Vieira gives captaincy saga verdict
Patrick Vieira has weighed in on Mikel Arteta’s decision to strip Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of the Arsenal captaincy.
Vieira is one of the club’s most successful captains of all time having led for club for their invincible 2003-04 season under Arsen Wenger’s management.
He now also has experience as a manager and has offered a unique insight into the Gunners’ saga, explaining exactly what he looks for in a captain.

Tuchel ‘to contact’ Aubameyang
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has said he will contact Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following the news that the Gabon international is to be stripped of the Arsenal captaincy.
Aubameyang worked under Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund where the pair won the DFB Pokal in 2017 – the German coach’s first major honour as a coach.
With speculation about Aubameyang’s future at Arsenal now rife, Tuchel says he will now contact the striker “at some point”.

Barcelona swap ‘details’
Arsenal can land a former Arsene Wenger target by approving a swap offer from Barcelona which would see Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang head to Spain.
Barca are set to offer Aubameyang an escape route out of the Emirates Stadium following his latest troubles at the club.
But with the Spanish giants struggling financially, they are expected to be in the market for swap deals in the upcoming January transfer window.
That could see them pursue a deal for Auba that would see as little money changing hands as possible, and they have a number of big stars they’d like to shift from their wage bill who could be up for grabs.
One such player was previously targeted by Arsene Wenger, and could make an impact in the Premier League if the move all goes through.
