Mikel Arteta’s opinion on Alexandre Lacazette emerges as three clubs linked with his signature

Arsenal will have to warn off three interested parties this summer with Alexandre Lacazette’s future far from certain.

The striker is in his fourth season as a Gunner but his contract will soon enter its final 12 months.

Arsenal have a decision to make on whether they cash in or look to extend his deal.

Mikel Arteta rates Lacazette and has called upon him regularly this term.

The former Lyon man hasn’t always been a guaranteed starter at the Emirates with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang often resigning him to the bench.

This season he has scored 13 times, including a brace in the draw at West Ham last time out.

Spanish pair Atletico Madrid and Sevilla are both keen on his services as they weigh up a summer move, reports ESPN.

Lacazette was close to signing for Atletico back in 2017 before their transfer ban opened the door for Arsenal.

Roma are also understood to be interested as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Arteta has previously said that the 28-year-old’s future would be on the agenda once the season comes to a close.

He said: “We are planning everything for the summer, the same with the board, with [chief executive] Vinai [Venkatesham], with [non-executive director] Tim [Lewis], and with the owners.

“We are very clear on how we want to do it.

“When you have to change 10 or 12 things in one window [as in January] it’s a lot, and that has some consequences with what has happened in previous months and what is going to happen in the following months.

“We still have to do quite a lot of things to do, but we will get to the point, hopefully, where it’s just ticking off a few things and the stability is there, because you need that as well to be consistent and be competitive.”

Arsenal have a chequered history when it comes to letting players leave on a free and will be keen to avoid a repeat.
