Liverpool get welcome injury boost ahead of Premier League meeting with Arsenal


Liverpool have welcomed Roberto Firmino back to training in what is a timely injury boost for the Reds.

The Brazilian has been missing for the last three games, but is now in contention for their clash at Arsenal this weekend.

He was joined at training by the likes of Alisson, Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Firmino’s place in the starting XI has come under pressure from Diogo Jota this term.

The summer signing scored Liverpool’s winner against Wolves in their last Premier League games.

But Firmino has an excellent record against the Gunners and gives Jurgen Klopp options.

The 29-year-old has scored eight times in 12 games against the north London outfit.

That includes a hat-trick in a devastating 5-1 victory at Anfield back in 2018, although he has not found the net in the last three meetings.

Liverpool have been hampered by injuries all year which has contributed to their steep decline.

Defensively Klopp has had to find makeshift solutions, but their attack has also suffered.

There has been talk of a reshuffle in attack and Firmino has been linked with the exit door despite with manager consistently underlining his quality.

The Reds have failed to score from open play in their last six games at Anfield so may welcome an away day.

The Emirates has not been a kind venue for Liverpool however having gone winless in their last three visits.

A 4-3 win on the opening day of the 2016/17 season was their last success at Arsenal.

Liverpool still have slim hopes of making the top four but must make up a five-point deficit to an inform Chelsea side.

The Reds have qualified for the Champions League in each of Klopp’s four seasons in charge.
