Jurgen Klinsmann has revealed the details of a private chat he had with Daniel Levy about taking over as Tottenham manager.
Spurs are currently searching for a new boss, with Jose Mourinho yet to be officially replaced.
Paulo Fonseca was expected to takeover in north London but talks fell through, and it was a similar story with fellow Italian Gennaro Gattuso.
Tottenham chairman Levy has had to go back to the drawing board then, with Mauricio Pochettino not looking like he will leave PSG at this stage to return.
But a familiar Spurs face has thrown his hat into the ring in the form of Germany legend Klinsmann, who spent a season at White Hart Lane, before later returning on loan.

The former striker has managed Germany and the USA, as well as Bayern Munich and more recently Hertha Berlin, but has been out of a job since last year.
And he revealed that he strongly hinted to Levy that was open to return shortly after Mourinho left.
He told Gary Lineker on BBC Sport: “Well I called him [Levy] when he let Mourinho go, and said Daniel ‘What’s the case now?’
“He said ‘listen, I’ve got so much to do right now, got to sort things out at the club, let’s talk later on’.

“Then I saw all the different names walking in, talking, walking out. And the same still today.
“Spurs is in my heart, absolutely would I consider that but if he doesn’t want to you cannot force him.”
Lineker then asked him: “But you’d be very interested?”
“Absolutely,” he replied.
Klinsmann gave his verdict on Tottenham’s underwhelming season last month, before telling a similar story about how he is always in touch with Levy to keep his name in the running.
“It’s been a rollercoaster for Spurs this year,” Klinsmann said. “At the beginning they were at the top and we all started to dream.
“Thankfully at the end we got into the Europa Conference League so at least there’s some kind of credit to the season that you play European football next season.
“In general, it’s been a tough ride. My personal hope is that things will stabilise.
“Spurs fans want to see entertainment. They would rather lose 4-3 than win 1-0, that’s up to Arsenal. We’d rather score goals!
“Definitely you’d entertain it, no doubt. He [Daniel Levy] has my number, he can call me anytime. Spurs is something that you’d always consider.
“I’m always in touch and doing stuff with Spurs is always something special. I had the best time of my life there during my two spells.
“In the football world, things happen so fast. I never thought I’d coach Germany or the United States so you have to have an open mind. You have to always think about new challenges, so why not Spurs?”
