Jesse Lingard warned Arsenal fans would “rip the place apart” if he made Gunners transfer

Manchester Untied legend Rio Ferdinand has cautioned Jesse Lingard that Arsenal fans “wouldn’t have him” at the Emirates.

The warning comes despite the Gunners emerging as suitors to sign the English playmaker this summer.

Lingard has been in scintillating form in the Premier League, with 12 goals or assists in nine appearances since he joined West Ham on loan from the Red Devils in January.

Arsenal are keen to sign a new option in attacking midfield this summer and they have reportedly shortlisted the 28-year-old.

But Ferdinand cannot see the transfer sitting well with Arsenal fans, as Lingard previously enraged the Emirates crowd by moonwalking after scoring a goal in 2019.

“Yeah but you know what they [ Arsenal fans] wouldn’t have him there,” Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel of Lingard.

“The way he moonwalked off that pitch once, they wouldn’t have it. The fans would rip the place apart. He disrespected the Emirates in a way that hadn’t been seen.

“Listen West Ham will have a fight to get him by the way because I think other teams are going to be like: ‘Listen, we want him!’

Would Arsenal fans accept Lingard at the Emirates? Have your say in the comments.

“He’s not going to go to Arsenal over West Ham, obviously but there will be other teams. He ain’t going nowhere near Arsenal.”

Lingard’s infamous moonwalk came during Manchester United’s 3-1 FA Cup victory over Arsenal and he later took to social media to say the Emirates was his “dance floor”.

The incident also rubbed Arsenal players up the wrong way and Bernd Leno said it gave the Gunners added motivation to have their revenge later that season.

“You will never forget something like that, when somebody is celebrating,” said the goalkeeper.

“You don’t want to see it again, so we were motivated and we knew about our chance because United had one [more] point than us. Now we have two points [more than them] and that was enough motivation for us.”
